• Zac Efron Archives Mon, 05 January 2009 Hairspray 2: White Lipstick

» Posted by Becky on 05 Jan 2009 • Filed under News, Rumors

Hairspray director Adam Shankman spilled the beans about the sequel to New Line’s blockbuster movie-musical and just how Zac Efron and Brittany Snow fit into the big picture.

Hairspray 2: White Lipstick is the sequel’s official movie title, which was actually the original title for 1998’s Hairspray. Shankman dished to MTV on more of teen idol Zac, 21, and less of Brittany, 22. Here’s what he had to say:

On Link Larkin getting hooked on acid: “I think that’s probably part of the treatment that won’t get used. And in the treatment, [Efron’s drug use] is an accident. That’s the kind of stuff where you’re like: ‘Yeah, I don’t know if that’s going to work.’”

On who will take the place of the Von Tussles, the villians of the movie: “There’ll be a change in villains. [John Waters’ treatment] is ideas that we’re just going to pick and choose from, and we’ll see what happens with it. Probably [no Michelle Pfeiffer]. Not because we didn’t love her, but because we just thought different adversaries [would be necessary].”

On the Vietnam War backdrop: “No, it wasn’t Zac.”

• HSM3 Dominates Oscar Eligibility List for Best Original Song

» Posted by Becky on 19 Dec 2008 • Filed under

Next month, when the list of Oscar nominees are announced, don't be surprised if you find High School Musical 3 there. The film has 11 songs that are eligible for nomination in the Best Original Song category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, on January 6. Members will then vote to determine which songs should be nominated for Oscars. Fans would certainly love to see High School Musical 3 stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and others on the red carpet and on the stage performing their favorite songs this coming February.

"Just Getting Started", "The Boys Are Back", "Can I Have This Dance", and "A Night To Remember" are among the songs from the High School Musical 3 soundtrack that can be nominated. Other contenders include: "The Call" from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, "Down To Earth" from WALL-E, "The Traveling Song" from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and "I Thought I Lost You" from Bolt. The songwriters from High School Musical will have serious competition in people like Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Norah Jones, and Peter Gabriel. However, no other movie comes even close to having 11 songs eligible for nomination. Repo! The Genetic Opera has the second highest amount, with 3.

In total, 49 songs songs are eligible for nomination. With High School Musical 3 representing almost 23% of the songs by themselves, it would be surprising if they didn't walk away with at least one nomination. The official nominations will be announced on January 22 and the 81st Annual Academy Awards are set to take place on February 22 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

• Zac Efron Might Go To College Some Day

» Posted by Becky on 17 Dec 2008 • Filed under News, Rumors

Zac Efron is riding high on the wave of success these days, but it doesn’t mean he’s given up on the idea of getting a secondary education. Before Zac landed the role that made him famous in “High School Musical”, he had been planning on attending the University of Southern California. All that changed due to the enormous success of the musical.

“I was accepted to the film program, but I deferred,” he told Tiger Beat.

Even though it now seems like he could teach a class on film these days, he says he still plans on attending some day.

“Eventually,” he said. “But not at this moment.”

Zac Efron has already completed the movie “17 Again” and is working on the remake of “Footloose”. Before he attends school, he’ll need his red-hot career to cool off a bit.
